Obituary for Thomas Anthony (Jack) Martin Thomas Anthony (Jack) Martin
World War II Veteran Was Retired VDOT Equipment Operator

Thomas Anthony (Jack) Martin, 88 of Lexington, Virginia, died Thursday, August 12, 2010 in Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born October 13, 1921 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Thomas and Annie Kirby Martin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Martin Brown; a grandson, T. J. Brown; two brothers, Murphy and John Martin; two sisters, Sally Bell "Dimple" McManus and Margaret Nagle.

Jack retired as equipment operator for VDOT, and was a member of Falling Spring Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Martin was a World War II veteran and served five years in the South Pacific.

Surviving are his wife, Josephine Huffman Martin; a brother, Bruce Martin of Lexington; a sister, Martha Martin Nicely and husband, Carl of Cartersville, GA; son-in-law, Stacy "Monkey" Brown of Buena Vista.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. John "Skip" Hastings officiating. Burial will follow with military rites in Broad Creek Cemetery, Natural Bridge, VA. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service and after the service at the home of Bruce Martin.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
