Poplar Hill Presbyterian Church Member Dies At Age 87

Earnest Vont Chaplin, 87, of Lexington, Virginia, died Saturday, August 28, 2010.

Born October 21, 1922 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Guy Worthy Chaplin and Annie Conner Chaplin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Irvine Chaplin; brothers and sisters, Frank Chaplin, Effie Johnson, Edward Chaplin, Lula Campbell, Alice Irvine and Baxter Chaplin; a son, Timothy Chaplin; and a grandchild, Brian Berry.

Mr. Chaplin was a member of Poplar Hill Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 126 and VFW Post 1499.

Surviving are a brother, Bennie Chaplin; three children, Starlene Clark and husband, Houston, Larry Chaplin and wife, Robin, and Clinton Chaplin and wife, Brenda; grandchildren, Danette Martin, Casey Goodbar, David Chaplin, Becky Wade, Brandi Malone, Summer Chaplin, P. J. Chaplin, Tonya Shipman, Jessie Thompson; great grandchildren, Jodi, Travis Martin, Brianna, Jessica, Grace Goodbar, Robbie Chaplin, Josh, Ryan Vanderer, Dillion Wade, Jared Bryant, Kennedy Malone, Haley Chaplin, Cheyenne, Christian Shipman, and Liberty Thompson.

There will be no viewing at the funeral home and all services will be private.

Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Va.
