Alleghany County Native Was Iron Gate Community Church Member

Clara Elizabeth Persinger Kellison Curry, age 76, of 1010 Dunbrack Road, Covington, Virginia, died Monday, August 29, 2010 at her residence with her family at her side.

She was born March 7, 1934 in Alleghany County, Virginia, to the late Stanley and Elizabeth Bailey Persinger.

She worked twenty years for Leggett's of Covington and for ten years at H & R Block.

She was a member of Iron Gate Community Church and a former member of Callaghan Church of God of Prophecy, where she was active from 1950 to 1998 as a Sunday school teacher and in Women's Ministries.

She loved softball, was an avid Braves fan, and enjoyed canning vegetables and cooking. She was a full-time mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who loved her family first and always put the needs of others above her own.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, John L. Kellison in November of 1993 and Henry Elmer "Hank" Curry, Sr. in January of 2010; a sister, Jane Bartley; and a brother, James Persinger.

She is survived by two daughters, Reverend Edith Marie Snedegar and husband, Ray of Covington, and Wanda Irene Morales and husband, Juan of Bristol, RI; two sons, John Kellison, Jr. of Covington, and Clarence Kellison and wife, D'ona of Covington; three sisters, Martha Carter and husband Benny of Covington, Dorothy Rowsey and husband, Leslie of Nathalie, and Nancy Hubbard and husband, Benny of Potts Creek; seven grandchildren, Mary Morales of Bristol, CT, Ray Snedegar II and wife, Tiffany of Covington, Melissa Crosier, Jessica Ramsey and husband, Steve of Clifton Forge, Jonathan Snedegar of Covington, Mackenzie Kellison of Blacksburg, and Elizabeth Kellison of Roanoke; seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Donald Brown and Reverend Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Ray Snedegar II, Jonathan Snedegar, Mackenzie Kellison, Charles Kellison III, James Kellison, and Glenn Davis.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Edith and Ray Snedegar, 1010 Dunbrack Road, Covington, VA. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Iron Gate Community Church, c/o Tiffany Snedegar, 2714 Jackson River Road, Covington, VA 24426.

Arrangements are being handled by the Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, Virginia.
