Short Hill Farm Owner Was Quintessential Southern Lady

Louise Williams Harris, 87, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away at her home near Lexington on September 19, 2010.

Mrs. Harris was born on July 30, 1923 to Nathaniel and Elizabeth Williams in Drewry, North Carolina and was such an adorable baby that she was nicknamed "Cutie" and remained so known to her family and friends throughout her life.

She married W. L. "Bill" Harris, Jr. in 1958 and a few years later moved with him to Lexington, where they established and operated Short Hill Farm.

She was such a hard worker yet remained elegant and the quintessential Southern Lady.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her daughters, Margaret Elizabeth Gunn and Evelyn Faye Newton; her sister, Edna Nichols; and her brothers, Nathaniel, Samuel, Jack, and Ray Williams.

She is survived by her son William "Will" Harris, III, his wife Jane and their children, Mary Elizabeth Morgan and husband, Jack; William "Lee" Harris IV; Thomas Houston Harris and Anna Katherine Harris; her granddaughter, Vicki Rapcavage; grandsons, Cameron Lane, Nathan Lane and Jay Smith; five great grandchildren, Emma and Aaron Rapcavage, Dalton Lane, John Lane, and Savannah Smith; her brother, Edison Williams and her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Williams, Dorothy Williams, Frances Williams, and Shirley Harris; brother-in-law, John Thomas Harris; her special friends and their families, Rose Westmoreland and Katherine Clemmer and James Glass; her devoted friends and caregivers, Loretta Moore, Debbie Sorrells, Elaine Lunsford, and Anna Hickman; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Home in Lexington, VA. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Horace Douty and the Rev. Barton Hellmuth at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel followed by the burial at the Oxford Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family requests that those wishing to make contributions in Mrs. Harris' memory please consider the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department and the Oxford Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory, Lexington.
