Eve Chelekis Macheras, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away on October 9, 2010.

Eve was born in Youngstown Ohio, the daughter of Anna and James Chelekis, and grew up in a large family as one of eight brothers and sisters.

Eve was predeceased by her beloved husband of forty-five years, George Peter Macheras, and by three sisters, Diane Andrews, Irene Parthemos, and Loy Georgetson; and two brothers, George and Steve Chelekis.

She is survived by four loving sons, Alex, James, Perry, Peter and wife, Ann, as well as her two sisters, Cleo Gorant and Bess Canelos. She also leaves many cherished nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Eve embraced life in her hometown of Youngstown, Ohio and her adopted home in Lexington, Virginia. Eve loved her music and studied at Dana's Music Institute in Youngstown, Ohio and Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York. Almost every summer over her lifetime, she returned to Chautauqua to enjoy the summer programs. During their married years in Lexington, Eve and George entertained friends and family many times, with Eve on the piano and George on the accordion. She was also an artist and painted many beautiful landscapes in Lexington.

She was a member of the Lexington Golf and Country Club and was an avid golfer, learning a love for the game to keep up with her husband and sons, and also playing at one time on the ladies' golf team. Her husband owned the Southern Inn Restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, where Eve worked for many years and together they developed strong bonds with many Lexington residents and visitors. She enjoyed cooking and many of her Greek recipes became standard fare on the Southern Inn menu.

Her friends and family will remember her for her love of family and tradition, the center of which was her "wonderful husband and four wonderful boys." In Eve's words, "I loved the way my family raised me. They were always there when I needed something and there was always music in the house. My father always told us to go to school, study music, and come home for the holidays." Eve may be gone, but is not forgotten.

She was a member of the Robert E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church of Lexington and the Holy Trinity Church of Roanoke, Virginia.
