Amy Vess Crizer, age 26, of 104 Lochridge Drive, Durham, North Carolina, died at her residence on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, after a twenty-one month battle with leukemia.

Amy was born June 6, 1984 in Alleghany County, Virginia, to Gregory E. and Kathryn Bodell Vess.

She was a 2002 graduate of Alleghany High School, a 2006 graduate of James Madison University, and received her Masters Degree in 2008 from Purdue University.

She was a member of Central Advent Christian Church and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

She is survived by her husband, David Michael Crizer of Durham, NC; parents, Greg and Kathy Vess of Clifton Forge; grandmother, Phyllis Vess of Clifton Forge; father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Roberta Crizer of Covington; a number of aunts and uncles, including Mary Beth and Mayfield Armstrong of Hoover, AL, and Genie and Eddie Putnam of Covington; special aunts, Kelly Vess and Joleen Feazell; brother-in-law, Matthew Crizer of Roanoke; grandparents, John Crizer of Covington and Bucky and Phyllis Webb of Selma; a number of cousins; and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Clovis Vess, and Ben and Sara Bodell.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Central Advent Christian Church, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Gene Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Drew Showalter, Matt Vess, Patrick Vess, Chris Vess, Mitch Vess, Christian Vess, Adam Vess, Stuart Williams, and Matt Crizer. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge and other times at the residence of Greg and Kathy Vess, 201 Buckhorn Trail, Clifton Forge. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Amy Vess Crizer Memorial Scholarship Fund, C/O Kathy Vess, 201 Buckhorn Trail, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or C/O Highlands Community Bank, Covington, VA 24426.
