Lexington Baptist Church Member Dies At Age 88

Edith Virginia Sheets Carter, 88, of Lexington, Virginia, went to be with the Lord, Monday, November 1, 2010 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born June 9, 1922, in Augusta County, she was the daughter of the late John Omas Sheets, Sr. and Nettie Ruckman Sheets.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude L. Carter, son, Richard L. Carter, sister, Joy S. Rankin, and brother John O. Sheets, Jr.

Edith was a member of the Lexington Baptist Church, East Lexington FCE, and graduated from North River High School in 1940.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda C. Smith and husband, Wayne of Lexington, and Judy C. Innis and husband, Terry of GA; one son, Claude Douglas Carter and wife, Debbie of SC; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Kerrs Creek Baptist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Lexington Lifesaving Crew. The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
