Obituary for Kenneth William Evans, Jr. Kenneth William Evans, Jr.
World War II Veteran Was Former American Legion Commander

Kenneth William Evans, Jr., 86, of Buena Vista, Virginia, died Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington.

Born November 9, 1924, in Hanibal, MO, he was the son of the late Kenneth William Evans, Sr. and Ola Turner Evans.

Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Ruth Huffman Evans.

Kenneth was a member of the Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He was a World War II Veteran, where he received the good conduct medal, ETO Ribbon with five Bronze Battle Stars and the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Evans was also the past Commander of Buena Vista American Legion Post #126, and Service officer for VFW Post 4805.

He retired from Burlington Industries after 40 years of service. After retirement he worked as a bus driver for the Buena Vista Public Schools and for the Valley Program for Aging with the Meals on Wheels program.

Surviving are his son, Paul Evans of Buena Vista; daughter, Joyce Evans of Madison Heights; two granddaughters, Sydney and Gail Evans; two grandsons, Paul and Dustin Hansen.

Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Green Hill Cemetery with the Rev. David Bain officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that donations be made to the Buena Vista American Legion Post #126 or Valley Program for the Aging.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Buena Vista, VA.
