Shelby Nance Hanner, age 74, of 3021 Douthat Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, went to be with Jesus after a long illness on Monday, November 22, 2010 at The Golden Living Center in Clifton Forge.

Born September 4, 1936 in Rockingham County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Nannie Rollins Nance.

She was an office cashier for the former Downer Hardware of Covington and was a member of Clifton Forge Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Blaine Hanner of Clifton Forge; two daughters, Elizabeth V. Ahrens of Corinth, TX and Nancy Michele Hanner of Roanoke; two sisters, Betty Lou Gauldin of Ruffin, NC and Patricia McKinney of Pelham, NC; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend J. Glenn Linthicum and Reverend Jeff Riley officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be selected from friends and family attending the service. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Clifton Forge Baptist Church, 511 McCormick Boulevard, P.O. Box 121, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to The Salvation Army, 153 N. Maple Ave, Covington, VA 24426.
