Obituary for Carolyn Evans Martin Carolyn Evans Martin
Georgia Native Had Constant Concern For Others

Carolyn Evans Martin, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away on November 27, 2010 after an extended illness.

Carolyn will be best remembered for her sweet smile, her soft Georgia accent, and her constant concern for the comfort of others.

She was born on December 29, 1922, in Jonesboro, Georgia, to Ira C. and Mae Powell Evans.

She was married for 61 years to Colonel Joseph E. Martin, who was a math professor at the Virginia Military Institute and preceded her in death in 2003.

She leaves one sister, Anne Evans Nollner, of Lexington; a daughter, Carolyn Martin (Cammy) Bryan and her husband, Charles, of Richmond, Virginia; and Mary Morrow Martin, wife of the late Joseph E. Martin, Jr., of Raleigh, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Alethea Bryan Gerding and her husband, Glenn, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Charles F. Bryan III and his wife, Angela, of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Joseph E. Martin III and his wife, Christy, of Raleigh; Alexander R. Martin and his wife, Mironda, of Raleigh; Donald Morrow Martin of Raleigh; and three great-grandsons, Joseph Graham Gerding, Jackson Bryan Gerding, and Joseph E. Martin IV.

A memorial service will be conducted at Kendal of Lexington, at 2 p.m., Friday, December 3. Memorial gifts may be made to the Joseph E. Martin and Joseph E. Martin, Jr., Scholarship Fund, VMI Keydet Club, VMI, Lexington, VA 24450.

Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
