Obituary for Marvin J. (Hollywood) Via Marvin J. (Hollywood) Via
Westvaco Retired Pipefitter Dies At Age 89

Marvin J. (Hollywood) Via, age 89, of 629 N. Augusta Avenue, Covington, Virginia, died Monday, December 6, 2010 in Winchester, Virginia.

He was born March 24, 1921 in Waynesboro, Virginia, to the late Eugene Turk Via and Mary Dickerson Via Smith.

He served in the United States Army during World War II and was retired from the Army National Guard.

He was a retired pipefitter for Westvaco and was a member of the Covington Moose Lodge and the Curtis A. Smith VFW Post #1033.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Mae "Agnes" Via; a former wife, Maxine Via Hamann; a sister, Zelma Clark; and two brothers, Johnny Via and Charles Smith.

He is survived by two daughters, Dreama Finney and husband, Charles of Berryville, and Jane Sexton and husband, Ronnie of Oakhill, WV; a son, Gregory E. Via of Covington; a step daughter, Rhonda Simmons of Covington; two step sons, Jack Persinger and wife, Brenda of Covington, and James M. "Jamie" Brown, Jr. of Clifton Forge; a sister, Violet Rose of Gathersburg, MD; four grandchildren; eleven step grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service was held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor with Reverend Patrick Malone officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by members of the Curtis A. Smith VFW Post # 1033. Interment will follow. The family received friends on Thursday evening at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
