C.F. Presbyterian Church Member Dies At Age 92

Elsie Mae Taylor Smith, age 92, of 708 Perry Drive, Fredericksburg, Virginia, and formerly of Wesgate, Clifton Forge, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.

Born May 23, 1918 in Bessamer (Eagle Rock), Virginia, she was a daughter of the late John Oscar and Hattie Via Taylor and stepfather, Roy Carson Biggs.

She was a homemaker throughout her life and member of Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Taylor and Rex Biggs and two sisters, Carrine Taylor and Ruby Paitsel.

She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia D. Clinton and husband Knox of Fairfax, and Deborah J. Davis and husband Larry of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Milly Caldwell of Covington and Libby Shelton of Staunton; a brother, Lacy Biggs of Covington; a brother-in-law, Henry Smith and wife, Anne of Farmville; four grandchildren, Amy Clinton Corbett and husband, Kevin of Lewisville, NC, Judson M. Clinton and wife, Trish of Maryville, TN, Seth Powers of Blacksburg and Benjamin Davis and wife, Jamie of Myrtle Beach; seven great grandchildren, Nathan Corbett, Alex Corbett, Megan Corbett, Reed Clinton, Dylan Davis, Aiden Davis, and Blake Davis; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Dr. William H. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington. Pallbearers will be Andre Smith, Knox Clinton, Larry Davis, Judson Clinton, Ralph Lane, Seth Powers, and David Shelton. The family received friends Saturday afternoon, one hour prior to the service, at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the home place in Wesgate, 108 Ferrol Ave, Clifton Forge, VA. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, 544 Church Street, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
