    Harry Echard Swisher

    Air Corps Veteran Was Active Community Member

    Harry Echard Swisher, 87, of Lexington, died Saturday, November 29, 2003 in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Mr. Swisher was born on September 6, 1916 in Rockbridge County, the son of the late Estil Leech Swisher and Mary Heron Echard Swisher.

    Mr. Swisher was a lifetime member of the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and clerk of the Session. He was a veteran of the 12th Tactical Air command of the Army Air Corps, Charter and Founding Member of the Kerrs Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Life Member of the Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club, member of the Rockbridge County School Board and many other community organizations.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Pultz (Peggy) Swisher.

    Mr. Swisher is survived by one son, Richard P. Swisher and wife Nancy of Earlysville; two daughters: Frances S. Schonder and husband Don of Charlotte, NC; Betty S. Barbour and husband Bryan of Lexington; 6 grandchildren and special friends Hyacinth Sensabaugh and Beverly Dudley.

    Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2003 at the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church and Rev. Martin Stokes officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church, Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club or Kerrs Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.
