Worked With James Lees And Sons For 47 Years

Virginia Stoner Parsons Funkhouser, 87, of Natural Bridge, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Kendal, Lexington, Virginia.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents, William Darst Parsons and Jessie Burks Stoner Parsons.

She was born August 30, 1923 in Rockbridge County, Virginia.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Robert (Bob) Davis Funkhouser; a son, Roger Davis Funkhouser and wife, Sarah and their children Adam and Ashley; a daughter, Maxine Funkhouser Smith and husband, Sherrill and their children; Duane Smith and his daughters, Morgan and Madison; Stimis Smith and wife, Teresa and their daughter, Annalise and son, Harrison; Diron Smith and wife, Dana and their daughters, Kathryn (Kacy) and Delaney and their son, Braeden; Sonja Overholt and husband, Clay and their daughters, Jessica and Kristina. Her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack and Betty Funkhouser; Harry and Martha Sue Funkhouser and Carlton (Cracker) and Lisa Funkhouser; cousins, nephews, nieces and extended families.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a life member of Highbridge Presbyterian Church, Natural Bridge, Virginia.

Special thanks to the staff of Kendal and Rockbridge Area Hospice for their care.

Virginia graduated from Natural Bridge High School class of 1940 and worked for James Lees and Sons (Burlington) from 1940 until retirement 1987.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 6 pm - 8 pm at the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington, Virginia. The funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Jason M. Grimes. Interment will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Glasgow Rescue Squad or Glasgow Fire Dept.
