Hercules Retiree Worked At Kmart Too

Leah Hatter Rider, 85, of Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Richfield Retirement Community in Salem.

She was born January 28, 1926 in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Herbert Spencer Hatter and Gladys Garber Hatter.

Mrs. Rider retired in 1980 from Hercules, Inc and was a former employee of the Industrial Rayon Corp. Following her retirement she was employed by K-Mart for a number of years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Winters O. Rider in 2007 and also by three sisters, Lois Hill, Thelma Scott and Elsie Wright.

Surviving are her son, Dennis Rider and his wife, Karen of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Kevin Rider and his wife, Shawna; Amy Renick; and Sean Rider and his wife, Jessica, all of Roanoke; five great grandchildren, Brennan Renick, Kayleigh Renick, and Emmie Rider; Gracey Rider and Chloe Rider, all of Roanoke; one sister, Phyllis Hatter Crawford of Covington; one niece, Susan Barnett of Eagle Rock; and a nephew, Sam Wright of Iron Gate.

The funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011 in the Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Faith M. Weedling officiating. The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
