Evelyn Bowen Brown Sorrell, 94, of Lexington, Virginia, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at her home.

She was born on October 8, 1916 in Rockbridge County, the daughter of the late Russell Roy Bowen and Bessie Serrett Bowen.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sorrell is preceded in death by her son, Don F. Brown and wife, Shirley.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence W. Sorrell and children, Jack N. Brown and wife, Jenny, James W. Brown and wife, Margie, and Janet Searcy and husband, Doug. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with the Rev. W. David Bain and the Rev. Dean Staton officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 15, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, P.O. Box 948, Lexington, VA 24450.
