Obituary for Violet Coles Wooding Violet Coles Wooding
Eagle Rock Native Dies At Age 90

Violet Coles Wooding, 90 of 826 Long Avenue, died, Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Berry Hill Nursing Home in South Boston.

She was born December 17, 1920, in Eagle Rock, a daughter of the late Norwood C. and Josephine Penn Coles.

Mrs. Wooding loved to cook and sew and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ and the Mother's Club of the church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Saunders Rogers; her second husband, William "Slick" Wooding; one son, William Wooding, Jr.; a grandson, Anthony Wooding; a granddaughter, Desiree "DeeDee" Carter; a great grandson, Antonio "Duke" Hill; and two brothers, Norwood "June" Coles and William "Bay" Coles.

Surviving are her children, Carol Rogers Hill of Covington; Carol Kelley and her husband, Thomas of Washington, DC; Edward Wooding and his wife, Janet, and Norwood Wooding and his wife, Debra, all of Roanoke; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren,; one brother-in-law, Eldridge Wooding and his wife, Barbara of White Sulphur Springs, WV; a God daughter, Laronna "Dollie" Harris of East Lansing, MI; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, March 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ with Elder Gregory Moore officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Thomas S. Simmons.

The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Friends may their respects at any time at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service tine at the church on Friday.
