Josephine Hayes Wines, 87, of Glasgow, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Benjamin Borden Healthcare Center in Lexington, VA.

Born November 12, 1923 in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late Winder Shields Hayes and Maggie Jane Sorrells Hayes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Wines; a son, Rev. Robert Wines; three brothers, Fred, Homer, and Clinton Hayes; two sisters, Bernice Earhart and Edna Mae Hayes.

Mrs. Wines was a member of the Falling Springs Presbyterian Church and retired from Burlington Industries.

Surviving are one son, Donnie L. Wines and wife, Vergie of Glasgow; one brother, Preston Hayes of Natural Bridge; three sisters, Mildred Butts of Gordonsville, VA; Lillian Wright of Lexington; and Ina Phillips of Fairfield; three grandchildren, Laura Hyde and husband, Tom of Albemarle, NC; Andrew Wines and wife, Peggy of West Sussex, England; Neal Wines and wife, Amber of Roanoke, VA; two step great grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brian Weger officiating. Burial will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity or to Rockbridge Area Hospice, P.O.
