Taught In Two-Room Schools In Rockbridge County

May Rebecca Thurston Cupp, 97, of Lexington, VA, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

She was born May 5, 1913, in Buena Vista, VA, and was the daughter of Leroy and Cammie Clements Thurston.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Cupp, and a son, Harvey L. Cupp.

Surviving are her four children, John Cupp, Jr., of NC, Sue Ellen McCoy and husband, Jerry, of Lexington, William (Bill) Cupp and wife, Roma, of Aylett, VA, and Becky Lillywhite and husband, Don, of Powhatan, VA; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

She taught in two-room schools in Rockbridge County after graduation from Harrisonburg State Teacher's College in 1932 and returned to James Madison University to receive an art degree 50 years later in 1982.

A celebration of life will be conducted at a graveside service at Greenhill Cemetery, Buena Vista, VA, Saturday, April 2nd, at 11 a.m.
