Obituary for Edith Davis Prillaman Edith Davis Prillaman

Beloved Member of R. E. Lee Episcopal Church

Edith (Sissy) Davis Prillaman, 79, of Lexington, VA, died at her home on Thursday, March 24, 2011, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Wichita Falls, TX, grew up in Lexington, VA, and later returned to Lexington in 1990.

She was a 1952 graduate of Mary Washington College.

She was an invaluable member and former president of the Blue Ridge Garden Club and an active and beloved member of the R.E. Lee Episcopal Church where she formerly served as President of the ECW.

Sissy's enthusiasm for young people was evident through her unwavering commitment to the Roots and Shoots School Garden at Waddell Elementary School, Lexington, VA.

She was the granddaughter of George A. Derbyshire and Edith Cushing Derbyshire; and the daughter of Edward Parks Davis and Edith Cushing Davis.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lt. Col., USA (Ret.) David Forbes Fletcher and Major General, USA (Ret.) John Paul Prillaman.

She is survived by three children, Edie, Emily and David Fletcher; and one brother, Edward Parks Davis.

Services will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2011, in Lexington, VA. There will be a private burial at 1 p.m., with a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. at R.E. Lee Episcopal Church, and a reception to follow at Moody Hall at VMI.

Instead of flowers, the family requests contributions to Roots and Shoots (Blue Ridge Garden Club) or Rockbridge Area Hospice.
