Obituary for John Edgar (Boots) Hayslett, Sr. John Edgar (Boots) Hayslett, Sr.
Lauderdale A.R.P. Church Member Was VMI Heavy Equipment Operator

John Edgar (Boots) Hayslett, Sr., 80, of Fairfield, Virginia, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at his home.

Born September 6, 1930 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late William McDonald Hayslett and Emma Kirby Hayslett.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Hayslett, and a granddaughter Brett Lacy Rowsey.

Mr. Hayslett was the last surviving member of his immediate family of thirteen children.

John was a member of the Lauderdale A.R.P. Church.

He retired from Virginia Military Institute with thirty seven years of service as a heavy equipment operator for Buildings and Grounds.

Surviving are his children, Emma Mae Rowsey and husband, Ricky of Buena Vista; Lillian Carol Starnes and husband, Ray of Roanoke; Bonnie Kay Hayslett of Fairfield; Edith Josie Smith and husband, Richard of Buena Vista; Melissa Palmer Moore and husband, Greg of Lexington; John Edgar Hayslett, Jr. of Fairfield; nine grandchildren two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lewis McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
