Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Craft Snead Mary Elizabeth Craft Snead
Rockbridge County Native Was Faith Baptist Church Member

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Craft Snead, age 98, the little girl who played in the mountains of Rockbridge County 98 years ago, has gone to be with her Lord.

She was the wife of the late Walter A. Snead.

Mrs. Snead was born July 1, 1912 in Rockbridge County, the daughter of the late Charlie L. Craft and Mattie McCulley Craft.

A member of this community for seventy-seven years, she was a homemaker.

Mrs. Snead was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She enjoyed working with her flowers, loved watching birds and most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Snead is survived by one son, Robert A. "BobÓ" Snead and wife, Brenda of Smithfield; five grandchildren, Marie Baldwin, Melvin Snead, Jr., Stephanie Potter, Tracey McMickle and Jennifer Snead; four great grandchildren, Justin Vuurmans, Kristin McMickle, Kathryn Potter and Jessica Snead.

In addition to her parents, Charlie L. Craft and Mattie McCulley Craft, and her husband, Walter A. Snead, Mrs. Snead was preceded in death by two sons, Walter Harold Snead and Melvin Wallace Snead, Sr.; one daughter-in-law, Ethel Snead; one grandson, Danny Snead; and one brother, Elmer L. Craft. A funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. John Burnham officiating. Interment followed in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Mark McMickle, Bryan Sexton, Wally Winebriner, Perry Wiseman, Mike Andrews and Emory Hinkle. The family received friends on Monday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
