Obituary for Sidney Allen Tyler, Sr. Sidney Allen Tyler, Sr.
Acadia Polymers Retiree Was Longtime Fireman

Sidney Allen Tyler, Sr., age 68, of 112 Howard Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at his residence after a short illness.

Sidney was born in Selma, Virginia, on April 14, 1943, a son of the late Doyle A. and Oma Holmes Tyler.

He retired from the Acadia Polymers (Iron Gate) in 2005.

He was a former Fire Chief (1980 - 1992) and was a twenty-two year member of the Clifton Forge Fire Department, as well as a member of the Clifton Forge Moose Lodge # 1683.

He was a member of the Selma Church of the Brethren and attended Iron Gate Baptist Church.

He loved fishing, hunting, and NASCAR.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dreama Wright.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia B. Tyler of Clifton Forge; two sons, Sidney "Allen" Tyler, Jr. and wife, Connie of Vinton, and Todd Lee Tyler and wife, LeeAnna of Clifton Forge; a daughter, Stacey Paige Tyler and Tony Blackstock of Roanoke; two sisters, Mrs. Jerry R. "Darlene" Taylor of Covington and Mrs. Robert A. "Fay" Jones of Norfolk; a granddaughter, Amanda Tyler of Vinton; two grandsons, Tony Angell and Travis Tyler of Clifton Forge; a number of nieces and nephews; two step daughters, Michelle Hahn of Arcadia and Laura Hahn of Salem; a step son, Eric Hahn of Philadelphia; four step grandchildren, Payton Cauley, Derick Hahn, Heather Cole, and Roger Legg; a step great granddaughter, Allyssa Cole; and previous wife, Vicky B. Smiley of Craigsville.

A memorial service to celebrate Sidney's life will be held on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the Iron Gate Baptist Church with Reverend Hunter Hale officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Clifton Forge Fire Department.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Iron Gate Baptist Church and any time at the residence, 112 Howard Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to The American Cancer Society, Alleghany Highlands Division, C/O Karen Buzzard, 807 McCormick Boulevard, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, PO Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, Virginia, is handling the arrangements.
