Army Veteran Retired From Burlington Industries After 37 Years

Atlas Edward Parker, age 78, of Lexington, VA completed his earthly journey on Tuesday, May 10, 2011.

Born in Nash County, North Carolina on January 29, 1933, he was the son of the late Haywood and Rosa Lee Parker.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, being predeceased by four sisters and six brothers.

He was retired from Burlington Industries after being employed for 37 years.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many.

Atlas is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gloria C. Parker; daughter and son-in-law, Jefflyn and Ronnie Covington, Fort Mill, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Gina Parker, Lexington, VA; three grandsons, Bryan A. Parker, Salem, VA., and Dustin Parker and Chase Parker, both of Lexington, VA; one granddaughter, Anna Covington, Fort Mill, SC; a number of nieces, nephews and other family members, primarily in North Carolina.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2011 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sheldon Sorrells officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Buena Vista, VA.
