Mr. Deitz had six years of service with the Virginia National Guard.

Mr. Deitz is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gloria Loan Deitz, whom he married on October 26, 1968; his two sons that he was really proud of, William Earl "Dutch" Deitz and his wife, Terri of Roanoke, and Robert Wayne Deitz and his wife, Rosanne of Blue Ridge; two grandchildren he thought the world of, Sarah Ann Deitz "Precious" and Joseph Earl "Jed" Deitz "Buckshot"; the favorite family pet, "Freckles"; a sister, Beatrice Clark and her husband, Sonny of Millboro; and lots of special friends and relatives.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Calvary Memorial Cemetery (Calvary Baptist Church), Millboro, Virginia with the Reverend Dr. John Haney officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Memorial Cemetery, Millboro. Pallbearers will be Matthew Adams, James Baldwin, Mike Shanks, Lester Bowyer, John Brown, and Tommy Fitch.
