Alvis Lorrane (Lo) Brookman, 74, of 10570 Potts Creek Road, Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor.

He was born April 30, 1937 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Arthur and Effie Lee Wolfe Brookman.

Mr. Brookman was a retired excavating contractor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Merson Bookman in 2002, and also by four brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Alvis E. and Stephanie Brookman and Richard and Carol Brookman, all of Covington; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Ronnie Humphries, Donna and Jack Welch and Lynn and Johnny Wright, all of Covington; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Odell and Geraldine Brookman of Covington; one sister, Thelma deChuebel of Baltimore, MD.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday afternoon, June 17, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel.

The interment will follow in Lone Star Cemetery.

Friends may pay their respects at any time at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
