Obituary for Bonnie Jean VanDerVeer Clemmer Bonnie Jean VanDerVeer Clemmer
Former Dental Assistant Enjoyed Hospitality, Craft Business

Bonnie Jean VanDerVeer Clemmer, of Lexington, Virginia, entered the gates of heaven on July 8, 2011 to join her parents, Robert Eldred "Bob" VanDerVeer and Elizabeth Connevey VanDerVeer and brother, Robert Lee VanDerVeer.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years of marriage, J. L. Clemmer, Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Charlie Shifflett, Waynesboro; son, Richard Clemmer and wife, Becky, Raphine; son, Bobby Clemmer and wife, Karen, Fairfield; grandchildren, Jeannie Clemmer Hite and husband, Derrick of Lexington; Katie Clemmer of Raphine; Macie Clemmer, Kennedy Clemmer, and Jaydyn Clemmer, all of Fairfield; great grandchild, Haylie Hite; cousin, Donald Davis and wife, Linda of New York; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bonnie was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, served as president of the Women of the Church, and served many years on the session as an elder.

She was the past president of the local chapter of the AARP and was a loving member of the Breakfast Club and Red Hat Society.

Bonnie served as a dental assistant for 30 years in Dr. Lawrence's office in Lexington. She also enjoyed working on her craft business, "BonnieÕs Creations," where she made and sold paintings and jewelry.

She loved planning family and community get-togethers at her and J. L.'s mountain home, "The Lazy J Lodge". Hospitality was truly her gift. Bonnie also loved watching her grandchildren play softball, volleyball and basketball.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road Roanoke, VA 24018. Honorary pallbearers will be Kay Smith, Doris Weeks, Susan Sheets, Malcolm Brownlee, Louie Blair, Doris Lunsford, R. W. Swisher, Rosemary Cecil, Mary Ann Acuff, Nancy Whitely, Betty Natkin, Becky Cutlip, Bonnie Payne, Sylvia Teague, Karin Cron, Ann Hockman, Evelyn Harlow, Diane Hopkins, Copper Perry, Diane Dudley, Sylvia Burch, Jo Heath. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Bethesda Presbyterian Church with Rev. Christina Tutterow and Rev. Bernard Bangley officiating. Interment will follow in Bethesda Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 Ð 8 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
