Obituary for Margaret Watson Moon Margaret Watson Moon
Bedford County Native Came To Covington To Open Mick-or-Mack Store With Her Husband In 1937

Mrs. Margaret Watson Moon, age 101, of formerly of Lexington Avenue, Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, July 30, 2011, at the Brian Center-Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was the wife of the late Malcolm Ramsey "Mac" Moon, who preceded her in death in 1988.

Mrs. Moon was born November 5, 1909 in Bedford County, the daughter of the late Harry Cooper Watson and Dolly Major Watson.

She and "Mac" came to Covington in 1937 to open the Mick-or-Mack Store on Maple Avenue. Mrs. Moon worked as an accountant, bookkeeper, and co-owner of the store and had previously worked at the Mick-or-Mack home office in the Roanoke area.

She was a member of Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church, a member and former treasurer of the American Cancer Society and was an avid bridge player.

Mrs. Moon is survived by one daughter, Dolly Moon of Brooklyn, NY; a special friend, Marie Keane of Brooklyn, NY; one nephew, Jack C. Mitchell of Bedford; several great nieces and nephews; and a number of special caregivers and friends from the home, church, and community.

In addition to her parents, Harry Cooper Watson and Dolly Major Watson, and her husband, Malcolm Ramsey "Mac" Moon, Mrs. Moon was preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia Watson Mitchell, Harriet Watson Mitchell, and Beverly Watson Armbruster.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2011, at Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barry Throckmorton officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Barney Mitchell, Carl Booberg, Mark Mitchell, Susan Hammond, Kay Foster and Curtis Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be Shan Mitchell, Kay Irvine, Helen Jean and Ernie Fitzgerald, Frances Leet, Charlotte Quate, Louise Fox, Pat Carter, Jane Ellis and Kyle Keyser.

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at the church and at other times at the Kyle Keyser residence, 629 E. Princeton Drive, Covington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church, 425 W. Main Street, Covington, VA 24426, or the Activities Fund of the Brian Center, P.O. Box 200, Low Moor, VA 24457.
