Obituary for James Emanuel Barnes James Emanuel Barnes
Retired Police Officer Served In Washington, D.C., Virginia Beach

James Emanuel Barnes, 86, of Lexington, Va. passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011.

He was born April 27, 1925 in North Carolina to the late Demetrous Condoyiannis and Hattie Burnett Condoyiannis.

James leaves behind a loving wife of 55 years, Madeline J. Barnes; two sons, Walter Dennis Hansbrough and his wife, Louise Hansborough of Lexington; Alvin Eugene Hansbrough of Newport News; one brother, Paul Condoyiannis; one sister, Katherine Condoyiannis; four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Barnes was a retired police officer in Washington, DC for the Metropolitan Police Department, having served for 25 years; and he worked with the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Department in VA Beach for 12 years.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, P.O. Box 948, Lexington, VA 24450.

A graveside service was conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery with the Pastor Hunter Phillips officiating. There was no visitation at the funeral home.

Arrangements were handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
