Retired Steam Laundry Checker Was Very Active In Her Church

Margaret Gibson Vest Persinger Dame, age 87 of 1317 Staunton Street, Selma, Virginia, died Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the Highland House in Clifton Forge.

She was born July 24, 1924 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late Willie Lewis Gibson and Naomi Eleanor Howard Gibson.

She was a retired checker for the former Clifton Forge Steam Laundry.

She was an active member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, where she was a member and past president of the Sara Lin Sunday School Class, belonged to the Women of the Church, and was in various circles in the church.

She was also very active in the Clifton Forge Food Pantry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Isaac Vest, Sr. in 1964; her second husband, Paul N. Persinger in 1978; sisters, Lois Ford, Eleanor Kindt, Evelyn Childs, and Joanne Scobee; brothers, Richard A. Gibson, Clarence R. Gibson, Charles Gibson, and Robert Bernard Gibson; and a granddaughter, Angelia Hinkle Beausoleil.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Virgil Dame of Selma; a daughter, Dianna V. Lyles and husband, Bobby of St. Peters, Missouri; two sons, Isaac Vest, Jr. and Thomas Vest, both of Clifton Forge; a sister, Catherine VanNess of Clifton Forge; a brother, William L. Gibson, Jr. of Tacoma, Washington; grandchildren, Tammy V. Mason and husband, Andy of Melfa, and Tommy Vest and wife, Debbie of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; great grandchildren, Thomas Wayne Vest, Alexander Herbert, Margaret Dianna King, Paul Nelson Adams, Dalton William Vest, and Jacquie Vest; four great great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Paul Brokaw officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Robert Brown, Carl Brinkley, Bill Hardbarger, Gordie James, Glenn Mays, and James Linkenhoker.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 544 Church Street, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
