Obituary for Floyd Odell (Tom) Brown, Sr. Floyd Odell (Tom) Brown, Sr.
Korean War Veteran Was Former Custodian

Floyd Odell (Tom) Brown, Sr., 81, of 2714 Malden Street, Low Moor, Virginia, died Friday, September 2, 2011 at The Woodlands in Clifton Forge.

He was born March 24, 1930 in Botetourt County, a son of the late Ernest Samuel and Carrie Lamb Brown.

Mr. Brown served with the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Alleghany County School System as a custodian.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Wilcher Brown in 1994; two sons, Floyd Brown, Jr. in 2006 and James Douglas Brown in 1970; a daughter, Debra Brown; a grandson, Adam Lee Groves; a brother, James M. Brown, Sr., and one sister, Gladys Collins.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Groves of Clifton Forge; a son, Tracy Brown and wife, Kathy Brown of Clifton Forge; one granddaughter, Tina Lawhorn and her husband, William of Covington; three grandsons, Gregory Groves of Orlando, FL; Joseph Allen Brown and Matthew Brown, both of Covington; three great grandchildren, Adam Groves, Jr. Oklahoma City, OK; James Groves of Roanoke and Emily Lawhorn of Covington; two sisters-in-law, Betty Kitt of Selma and Betty Wilcher of Youngstown, Fl and special friends, Danny and Teresa Little and family of Low Moor.

The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 4, 2011 in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Fisher officiating. The interment followed in the Sunrise Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Danny Little, Duane Dudley, Tony Kitt, Charles Collins, William Lawhorn, Homer Warren and Floyd Smith. The family received friends at the Arritt Funeral Home and will at other times will be at the residence of Patricia Groves, Scott Hill, Ridge View Apartment 409 or at Tracy Brown of 526 Roxbury St. Clifton Forge.

Memorial donations in Mr. Brown's name may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Central and Western Virginia Chapter, 2728 Colonial Ave., Suite 2, Roanoke, VA 24015.
