Obituary for Ira Thomas (Old Man) Ginger, Sr. Ira Thomas (Old Man) Ginger, Sr.
Korean War Veter Retired From Hercules

Ira Thomas (Old Man) Ginger, Sr., 81, of 1118 Brookhaven Drive, Covington, Virginia, passed away at his home, peacefully in his sleep.

He was born on March 19, 1930 in Bath County, a son of the late John and Mary Ginger.

Mr. Ginger served his country in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952.

He was retired from Hercules, Inc.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2000, and three brothers, Johnny, Frank, Harry, and a great grandson, Elijah Jackson.

In 1955 he married the love of his life, who preceded him death in 2000, Patsy Carrol O'Dell. Together they had seven children; Carroll, Martha, Brenda, Shelia, Tommy Jr., Timmy and Teresa.

He is survived by 13 grandchildren including Hannah, his little girl, and 17 great grandchildren including Hunter, Paw Paw's "Little Man"; one sister, Ann Tingler of Covington, and one brother, Joe Ginger of Chesapeake and his best friend, Dennis Smith and his wife, Janice.

In keeping with Mr. Ginger's wishes, his body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
