Ellis Clinton Smith of Millstone, West Virginia went to be with his heavenly Father on September 17, 2011.

He was born in Rockbridge County on June 10, 1932.

He was the son of Elisha and Elizabeth Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Rudolph and Ottie Smith, and his sisters, Helen Smith Hayes and Julie Hartless.

Clinton is survived by one sister, Genevieve Birch of Amherst, Virginia; his first wife and life long friend, Frances Marie; daughters, Bonnie Foster of Natural Bridge Station, Elizabeth Jane Sorrells and her partner, Camille of Morristown, Tennessee; Sherry Hall and her husband, Ted Hall of Millstone, West Virginia; one son, Daniel Clinton Smith and his wife, Penny Smith, of Glasgow, Virginia; and special friend of the family, Joe Hoover of Millstone, West Virginia; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Out of town family and friends who attended the funeral were Frank Clark, Charles Clark, James Clark and Loretta (Tammy) Sorrells of Buena Vista, Virginia; Nicole Mortensen of Natural Bridge.

Clinton was a retiree of Lee's Carpets of Glasgow. He attended the Senior Center in Grantsville, West Virginia. He was a member of the Sycamore Baptist Church of Grantsville, West Virginia.

Services were held on September 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sycamore Baptist Church Cemetery where he was laid to rest, per his request.

The Reverend Gene Satterfield performed the service and arrangements were provided by Stump Funeral Home of Arnoldsburg, West Virginia.
