Louisa County Native Dies At Age 102

Rebecca Thompson Harris, age 102, of 4 Mound Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Friday, September 23, 2011 at The Woodlands Nursing Home in Clifton Forge.

She was born May 8, 1909 in Louisa County, Virginia to Abraham and Emma Robinson Thompson.

She was retired from the former Emmett Memorial Hospital in Clifton Forge, where she worked in the kitchen.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, serving as an usher of the church, a deaconess, and in the Senior Church Choir. She also assisted with Church Aid and belonged to the City Sunshine Club and the Bohemian Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore R. Harris; two sons, Mr. Frank Jackson, Jr. and Mr. Kirk Harris; a sister, Mrs. Elmira Lewis, and a number of brothers.

She is survived by six grandchildren, devoted granddaughter, Teresa Jones and husband, James of Newport News, Alatha "Lillie" Long and husband, Fred of Richmond, Wilhelmenia Jackson of Milwaukee, WI, Raenita Carnigne and husband, Samuel of Merritta, GA, Francine Atkinson of Grifton, NC, and Franklin Jackson III and wife, Judy of Missouri City, TX; seven great grandchildren, Isaac Talton, Tianna Talton, Brian Long, Jetaime Jones, Katrina Atkinson, Chelsea Scott, and Jordan; six great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Thompson; and a number of nieces and nephews, who knew her as "Aunt Beck".

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Clifton Forge with Reverend Roslyn Thomas officiating and Reverend Raymond Hailes delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Red Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Scott Pierce, Henry Saucier, Julian Hamilton, Pete Alston, and Gene Carter. Tyrone Hughson will be an honorary pallbearer. Flowerbearers will be Genalda Wallace, Vanessa Wallace, Nannie West, Margray Christian, Gretel Anderson, and Hester Alston. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is handling arrangements.
