Daniel Wayne Smals, 56, of Fairfield, Virginia, died Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Born January 11, 1955 in Indiana, he was a son of James Russel Smals and Betty Ramsey Smals.

Mr. Smals was a member of the First Brethren Church in Buena Vista.

Surviving are three sons, Jason D. Smals, Jarrod H. Smals, and Jerel B. Smals, all of Fairfield; siblings, Rebecca Lynn and husband, Galen; Paul Smals and wife, Donna; Teresa Evans and husband, Michael; Brian Smals and friend, Lori; Miriam Winston and husband, Skip; four grandchildren; twelve nieces and nephews; eight great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at First Brethren Church with the Rev. James Smals and Rev. Christian Becker officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Fairfield.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Buena Vista, VA.
