Eagle Rock Resident Was Certified Nursing Aide

Delores Kathleen Merchant Wright, age 70, of 125 Scotts Hollow Road, Eagle Rock, Virginia, died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at her residence.

She was born February 26, 1941 in Gala, Botetourt County, Virginia to Lawrence Merchant and Josephine Brown Miller.

Delores was a certified nursing aide and homemaker.

She was a member of Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir.

In addition to her late parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Wright in 2004; two sisters, two brothers, three grandchildren, and two aunts.

She is survived by six daughters, Diane Jeter of Clifton Forge, Yvonne Wright and friend Mario Robinson of Covington, Kimely Jeter of Covington, Robin Wright and friend, Harold Jackson of Eagle Rock, Jackie Morse and husband, Keith of Eagle Rock, and Sasha Wright of Eagle Rock; five sons, James Merchant and wife, Pam of West Virginia, Robert Wright, Jr. and wife, Arnetia of Eagle Rock, Randy Merchant and friend, Tabitha of Roanoke, Sean Wright of Eagle Rock, and Shayne Howard of Eagle Rock; six sisters, Jackie Hobson and husband, Andrew of Roanoke, Elizabeth Merchant of Roanoke, Brenda Madison of California, Audrey Anderson and husband, Daryl of Roanoke, Gracie Becks and husband, William of Roanoke, and Wanda Thompson of Fincastle; three brothers, Edward Merchant, Clyde Merchant, and Bernard Merchant, all of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Yvonne Hunter of Clifton Forge; special aunt, Hester Alston of Clifton Forge; and a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend David Halsey officiating. Interment will follow in Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Gala. The family will receive friends on Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home, or any time at the residence.
