Obituary for Ida M. Martin Ida M. Martin
Collierstown Native Dies In Nebraska

Ida M. Martin, 87, of Beatrice, Nebraska, died at her home on Monday morning, November 7, 2011.

She was born on March 20, 1924 at Collierstown, VA, and graduated from Collierstown High School. She attended the University of Virginia at Charlottesville for one year. She lived in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, IL before her marriage to Fred C. Martin on May 28, 1947 in Alexandria, VA.

She was a tuner and plotter for Capital Airlines from 1941 until 1955 and then worked as an inspector for the engineering department of Andrew Corporation in Orland Park, IL for 22 years, retiring in 1982. They lived in Troutville, VA from 1982 until 1987 when they moved to Beatrice. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

She enjoyed painting, crossword puzzles, eating out and caring for her beloved poodle "Murphy," who never left her side for 12 years.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Martin and wife, Janice of Beatrice and Danny Martin and wife, Kathryn of Eldorado, IL; three grandsons, Zachary Martin and wife, Emily of Washington, D.C., Jonah Martin and wife, Mohria and Gabe Martin and wife, Marla, all of Energy, IL; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Wilmore of Charlotte, N.C; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Rhodes Black, her husband, Fred, who died on May 26, 2001; two brothers, Russell and Paul Black; one brother-in-law, Reid Wilmore.

At Ida's request there will be no services. The body has been cremated. Inurnment of the cremains will be in the Collierstown Presbyterian Cemetery of Collierstown, VA at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Beatrice Humane Society. A guestbook for signatures and messages of condolence is available online at www.foxfuneralhome.net.
