Obituary for George Franklin Kirby George Franklin Kirby
Westvaco Retiree Was World War II Veteran

George Franklin Kirby, 84, of 7308 Mill Branch Road, Covington, Virginia, died early Monday, November 21, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Kirby was born May 7, 1927 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Samuel E. and Dora Chapman Kirby.

He had retired in 1989 from the Waste Treatment Plant at Westvaco Corp. after 42 years of service with the company.

He was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Navy.

George was a member of Pinnell Chapel United Methodist Church, the Boiling Springs Ruritan Club and was a retired Charter Member of the Boiling Spring Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Nida Kirby, in 1992, and also by a brother, Gene Kirby, in 1991.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Debbie Kirby of Tennessee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Gene Stull of Covington and Ann and Don Hepler of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Melissa Peregoy of Moneta, Lisa Harmon, Susan Gibson, Donald W. Kirby and Shannon Stull, all of Covington; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Lewis Kirby of Romney, WV, and Eddie Kirby of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Norma Kemper and her husband, Gene, of Covington, and Erma Barkon of Baltimore, MD; and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be made in Lone Star Cemetery.
