Mr. Junior Lewis Gaines, age 75, of 1750 Summit Drive, Covington, Virginia, died Thursday, November 24, 2011, at his residence.

He was the husband of Cassie Mae Whitley Gaines.

Mr. Gaines was born May 19, 1936 in Alleghany County, the son of Everette Lewis Gaines and Luella Tucker Gaines.

He worked as a truck driver for Byer, Harmon and Johnson and D.D. Kern before his retirement.

He enjoyed the outdoors, logging, riding his horses, and took great pride in his yard.

Mr. Gaines was a member of Boiling Spring Bible Church.

In addition to his wife of 28 years, he is survived by three step-children, Zellie Bunn, Angela Bunn, and Rachel Bunn; seven step-grandchildren; one nephew, Randy Gaines; three nieces, Mary Halterman, Lula Phillips and Linda Gaines; and a host of family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger A. Gaines and Claude D. Gaines.

A funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday from the Chapel Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Hubbard officiating. Interment followed in Lone Star Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Calvin Phillips, David Via, William Brock, Troy Moore, Michael Brock, and Justin Moore. Alternates were Matthew Phillips, Jr. and John Halterman, III.

The family received friends Saturday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
