Alice Harper Buchanan, 66, of Lexington, Virginia, died Sunday December 4, 2011 at her home.

Born August 10, 1945 in Lexington, she was a daughter of R. Marlowe Harper and the late Mildred Moore Harper.

Alice was a member of the Manly Memorial Baptist Church and retired from Virginia Military Institute, where she was the Computer Network Manager.

Surviving, in addition to her father, are her husband, Charles William Buchanan of Lexington; two daughters, Alicia Shires and husband, Steve, and Jessica Buchanan, all of Lexington; one brother, R. Marlowe "Marty" Harper, Jr. of Naples, FL; one grandson, Michael Shires.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. J. Michael Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family suggests that instead of flowers, contributions be made to Cats Unlimited, P.O. Box 484, Lexington, VA 24450.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
