Geraldine Fitzpatrick Tolliver, 85, of the Brian Center Nursing Center in Low Moor, VA, and formerly of Brussels Avenue, Clifton Forge, VA, died Tuesday evening, December 13, 2011, at the nursing center.

She was born in the Falling Springs area of Alleghany County, Virginia on September 1, 1926, a daughter of the late Edward and Esther Burks Fitzpatrick.

She was a retired housekeeper working for the family of Doctor and Mrs. Alvin Finestone for many years. Mrs. Tolliver was active in her home church of Main Street Baptist Church serving as past president of the church choir, past superintendent and past treasurer of the church Sunday school, a member of the Helping Hands Club, and was active in the Singing Choir of the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Norman Tolliver in 1960. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Ola Jeter and Georgina Megginson, by a sister Barbara Lee Fitzpatrick and by 2 aunts, Marion and Hazel Lemon.

She is survived by 4 grandchildren, Sharon Merchant of North Carolina, Justina Megginson of Roanoke, Jocelyn Hall of Delaware and Jaylon Megginson of Roanoke; a number of great grandchildren; a number of great, great grandchildren; and an uncle, Leroy Lemon.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday morning at 11:00 A.M. from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with the Rev. Preston Tyler officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10:00 A.M. until time of the funeral service. Active pallbearers will be selected from friends and family attending the service. Arrangements are being handled by Nicely Funeral Home.
