Retired School Teacher Dies At Age 94

Elsie Clare Oas, 94, of Rockbridge Baths, Virginia, died Friday, December 16, 2011 at Havenwood Manor.

Born January 6, 1917 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Robert H. Cox and Trammell Beall Cox.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Oas, Sr.

Mrs. Oas was a member of the R. E. Lee Episcopal Church.

In 1974 she retired as a school teacher from the Augusta and Waynesboro School Systems.

Surviving are her children, Signe O. Lewis and husband, A.W. "Buster" Lewis, Jr.; Robert Lee Oas, Jr. and wife, Mary Sue, all of Rockbridge Baths; one grandchild; two step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at R. E. Lee Memorial with the Rev. Tom Crittenden and the Rev. Christinia Tutterow officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rockbridge Regional Library, R. E. Lee Episcopal Church or Bethesda Presbyterian Church.

The family would like to thank Havenwood and Rockbridge Area Hospice for their support.
