Obituary for Marvin Zane Black, Sr. Marvin Zane Black, Sr.
Nimrod Hall Native Worked With The Homestead

Marvin Zane Black, Sr., age 81, of Avante Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and formerly of Crawford Manor, died at the nursing home on Saturday, December 24, 2011.

He was born October 27, 1930 in Nimrod Hall, Bath County, Virginia, to the late William H. and Lottie Hinton Black.

He was a laborer for the power station at The Homestead Resort in Hot Springs and attended Horeb Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Riley Black in 1990 after 32 years of marriage; a sister, Wilda Jones; four brothers, Charles Black, Lacey Black, Marion Black, and Jack Black; and a grandson, Justin Stottlymer.

He is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Hart and husband, Ben of Verona; four sons, Marvin Z. Black, Jr. and wife, Evelyn of Fishersville, Robert L. Black and wife, Missy of Craigsville, Jeffrey L. Black of Mt. Solon, and Terry Black and wife, Susan of Grottoes; two sisters, Myrtle Marshall and husband, Gary of Verona and Annie Tunning of Franks Mill; a brother, Lennie Black and wife, Pat of Weyers Cave; fourteen grandchildren; ten grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery, Millboro with Reverend David Donovan officiating. Interment followed in Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery. The grandsons served as pallbearers.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is handling local arrangements.
