Elizabeth May Ullmer Hughes, 74, of Dublin, VA, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012.

She was born in Totowa Burough, NJ, on October 20, 1937 to Alfred and Gladys Ullmer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Reaford "Joe" Hughes, her brother, Alfred "Sonny" Ullmer, and her sister Shirley Defalco of New Jersey.

Elizabeth, affectionately known as Betty, will be greatly missed by her family; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Kim, and their sons, Grady and Eli of Bloomington, IN; son and daughter-in-law, Jody and Tracie of Roanoke, VA.; a brother, Doug Ullmer and brother, Allen and wife, Ann, all of Milford, KS.; a sister, Ethel Wood of Strausburg, PA.

Betty enjoyed spending time with the ones she loved, including her walking buddies, Jean Wall and Rita Callahan, and all of her dear friends at Christ's Church of Radford, VA.

Her church was so important to her. If there was an event happening, she was the first one there and the last to leave.

She also enjoyed taking care of her little dog, Korky and cat, Tigerlilly. She liked Betty Boop mementos and was an avid collector of snowman and deer keepsakes.

She always thought of others before herself and the memory of her kindness will live inside of each person she touched for years to come. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in her honor to her church, Christ's Church, 310 Fourth Avenue, Radford, VA, 24141. There will be a memorial service at the church on Sunday, March 11th at 2 p.m.. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 12th at New Monmouth Presbyterian Cemetery with Minister Eddie Callahan officating.

Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
