Obituary for Carlton Comer Layne, Sr. Carlton Comer Layne, Sr.
Operated Layne's Grocery For 57 Years

Carlton Comer Layne, Sr., 81, of Natural Bridge, Virginia, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at his home.

Born September 10, 1930 in Lynchburg, VA, he was a son of the late Stephen Berkeley Layne and Mary Sallie Stewart Layne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Turner Layne; a brother, Berkeley Layne and a sister, Alease Bumgardner.

Mr. Layne owned and operated Layne's Grocery for fifty seven years.

Surviving are his three sons, Carlton C. Layne, Jr. of Valdosta, GA and his three children, Kimberly Redifer, Edward Layne and Khristine Layne; Stephen A. Layne and wife, Angie of Glasgow, VA and their three daughters, Stephanie Ballard, Samantha Hoke, and Stacy Layne; Michael E. Layne and wife, Jennifer of Ashland, VA, and their children Lexi and Zachary Crowell, Keegan, and Emerson Layne; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Samuel Layne of FL; Ray Layne of Forest, VA; two sisters, Lula Bell Hill; Mary Teresa Layne, both of Lynchburg.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doris Hedrick officiating. Burial will follow at Falling Spring Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
