Obituary for Una Mae Kern Una Mae Kern
Was System Analyst For CSX Transportation

Una Mae Kern, age 76, of 7600 E. Parham Road, Richmond, Virginia, went peacefully home to be with the Lord on April 4, 2012.

She was born on December 20, 1936 in Botetourt County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Matthew Brown Kern and Ethel Haddox Kern.

She was a system analyst for CSX Transportation and attended Staples Mill Road Baptist Church in Richmond.

She loved all sports, especially basketball, and was always a positive person and a joy to be around. She had many friends and family, and enjoyed watching the activities of their children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Frances Duff, Agnes Showalter, Priscilla Redd, Josephine "Peany" Kern, and Mary Kidd, and two brothers, Matthew Brown Kern, Jr. and Jimmy Fox.

She is survived by two sisters, Madeline "Happy" Wickline of Salem and Elsie Bradley and husband, Carroll of Fincastle; three brothers, Connie Kern and wife, Jo Marilyn of Sherwood, Arkansas, Keith Kern and wife, Eunice of Roanoke, and Gary Kern of Eagle Rock; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews, including Noah, Alex, and Hunter, who she always enjoyed spending time with; and a special friend, Barbara Cruey of Richmond.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Barbara because she had always been there for Una and the family.

A graveside funeral service was held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge with Reverend Jim Booth officiating. Interment followed. The family received friends on Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
