Maxine Elizabeth Shaffer Peters, 78, of 424 E. Parrish Street, Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor.

Mrs. Peters was born October 13, 1933 in Covington, a daughter of the late Minnick Truitt and Ruby Geneva Brewster Peters.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Oscar S. Peters of Covington; one daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Pete Jones of Roanoke; three sons and daughters in law, Scott and Holly Peters of Covington; Terry and Lee Ann Peters of Port Arkansas, TX; and Jerry and Deborah Peters of Yorktown; eight grandchildren, Jay Peters, Jody Colglazier, Gary Peters, Sarah Peters, Ryan Peters, Logan Peters, Ashley Fridley and Nick Morris; four great grandchildren, Olivia Peters, Gavin Lee Colglazier, Ethan Morris, and Emma Fridley; and special friends, Gary and Rachel Gilpin of Covington.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the graveside in the Johnson Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. William M. Hartsfield officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until servicetime at the Arritt Funeral Home.
