Former CSX Electrician Was First Assembly Of God Church Member, Korean War Veteran

Lawrence Mayfield Simpson Jr., 80, of Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Friday, April 13, 2012 at the Woodlands.

He was born March 30, 1932 in Glen Wilton, Virginia, a son of the late Lawrence M., Sr. and Ocieala Roberts Simpson.

He was a retired electrician with CSX Transportation, a member of The First Assembly of God Church in Clifton Forge, and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara West, Doris Gayle and Naomi McGee.

He is survived by his wife: Shirley Baker Simpson, of Clifton Forge; a son, David Alan Simpson and his wife, Donna A. Simpson, of Clifton Forge; a granddaughter, Courtney Simpson, of Clifton Forge; one sister, Sharan Dababnah, of Hickory, NC; special friend, Van Abshire, of Covington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Alleghany Memorial Park in Low Moor, with the Reverend Martin Garrett, officiating. Graveside military honors will be provided by the Burnside-Carpenter VFW post #4299. Interment will immediately follow. The family will receive friends from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. Monday at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence of David and Donna Simpson 1811 N. Oakwood Drive, Clifton Forge.
