World War II Veteran Was Building Contractor

Samuel Ambrose Lawson Jr., retired building contractor, died on April 19, 2012. He was 87.

A veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he served in the Battle of the Bulge.

After the war, Sam loyally worked for his father, also a building contractor, and ventured into the construction of several large churches, of which he took great pride.

He was a member of the Elliott Hill United Methodist Church.

Sam is survived by a brother, Frederick R. Lawson of Salisbury, MD; two sisters, Joan L. Braford of Natural Bridge Station, VA, and Brenda S. Stoner of Buena Vista, VA; a niece, Dawn G. Coleman of Covington, VA, and nephew, Scott A. Lawson of Natural Bridge, VA, of whom he endeared as his own children; many other nieces and nephews; a friend and companion, Louise Cundiff; and a special caregiver, Anita Tomlinson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
