Vernon (Junebug) Elliott Mikels Jr., 66, of Buena Vista, Virginia, died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, VA.

Born March 1, 1946 in Lexington, he was a son of Ellen Faye Argenbright Mikels of Buena Vista and the late Vernon Elliott Mikels, Sr.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Faye Mikels; one brother and two sisters.

Junebug was a member of the Buena Vista Fire Department for 28 years.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Doris Chittum Mikels; children, Lisa Keiser and husband, Tommy; Kevin Mikels and wife Marnie; Jason Mikels and wife April; Cindy Harrison and husband, Mitch; grandchildren, Samantha Roberts, Stephanie Lawhorn, Katie Mikels, Zachary Roberts, Eason Mikels, LeeAnna Mikels, Macey Harrison; five step grandchildren; three sisters; two brothers; a special sister-in-law, Darlene Davidson; a special friend, Roy Lee Vest; special dog, Bubba.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kris Peaden and the Rev. Butch Grow officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Buena Vista, VA.
